Memphis in May BBQ Fest tickets on sale

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tickets for the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest are now on sale.

This year’s barbecue festival will be held in Liberty Park from May 15 through May 18. Single-day tickets are $15, while tickets for all four days will be $54. “VIPit” tickets will be $549 each.

Tickets and information are available on Memphis in May’s website.

“Memphis in May is authentically the heart and soul of Memphis and our World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest has an unparalleled global reputation for over four and a half decades,” new Memphis in May President and CEO Mack Weaver said in a statement. “Memphis in May is always our city’s most diverse party and the WCBCC becomes the biggest, friendliest backyard barbecue in Memphis so everyone is welcome. Plus, everyone already knows, we know how to party.”

Memphis in May moved the barbecue festival from Tom Lee Park after disputes with Memphis River Parks Partnership over increasing fees, including claims that Memphis in May had done $1.4 million in damages to Tom Lee Park.

Renovations done to Tom Lee Park’s design reportedly also factored into the decision.

Memphis in May Barbecue Championship may not return to Tom Lee Park

A new barbecue contest will be held in Tom Leek Park. “SmokeSlam,” organized by Forward Momentum, is set to be held from May 16 through May 18.

Forward Momentum claims its event has attracted more than 100 interested teams.

“Our event is called a festival because we aim to attract barbecue fans, but also families, music lovers, and young people from Memphis and beyond,” Forward Momentum’s Mike Smith said.
