Memphis father walks 21 miles, raises money for World Down Syndrome Day

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thursday is World Down Syndrome Day and a local father is “Walking in Memphis” in hopes of raising awareness for the condition.

World Down Syndrome Day is held each year on March 21. This is because those with Down Syndrome have three copies of the 21st chromosome.

This is Joshua Greer’s seventh year walking to raise awareness. He sets out to walk 21 miles and raise $21,000.

Greer says 100% of the proceeds will go to the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Midsouth.

During the walk, he also visits 21 Memphis landmarks. Thursday morning, Greer started off at the Big River Crossing.

The other landmarks Greer will visit include the National Civil Rights Museum, Autozone Park, the Children’s Museum, LeBonheur, St. Jude, and the finale stop tonight at 6 p.m.– Beale Street Landing.

There will be a celebration there from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. It is free to attend. There will be a silent auction, games, music and food trucks.
