Memorial Day: What's closed, what's open and where to find local parades
Memorial Day arrives Monday.
Some things to keep in mind:
Parades
New Brighton Memorial Day Parade, Starts 10 a.m. Monday, traveling Third Avenue from 15th Street to Sixth Street, where a memorial service will be held in Townsend Park.
Beaver Memorial Day Parade, 10:30 a.m. Monday traveling Third Street. All veterans are invited to walk or be driven in the parade. Veterans who would like to join the parade are asked to meet at the Beaver Municipal Building at 469 Third St., at 9:45 a.m. wearing civvies or uniform. Following the parade is a memorial ceremony at the Beaver Cemetery.
Hookstown Memorial Day Parade starts marching at 11 a.m. Monday. Line-up begins at 10 a.m. on Main Street. No pre-registration required. Sign up the morning of the parade at Johnston's Market. A service will be held following the parade. The Hookstown Grange Memorial Day Car Cruise is from noon to 3 p.m. at the Hookstown Fairgrounds. Entry and admission are free.
What's closed
All post offices will be closed for retail transactions and there will be no regular residential or business mail deliveries on Monday.
Most of FedEx's pickup and delivery services will not be available on Memorial Day, according to the company's website. UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on Memorial Day either.
Banks will be closed.
State and federal government offices won't be open.
Beaver County libraries are closed, too.
What's open
Pennsylvania wine and liquor stores normally open on Monday will be open from their regularly scheduled start time through 5 p.m., according to the state Liquor Control Board website.
