Memorial Day services planned for Jamestown, surrounding area

May 22—JAMESTOWN — Memorial Day observances will be held Monday, May 27, in Jamestown and the surrounding area.

The Jamestown Patriotic Council will hold a memorial-remembrance service at 9 a.m. in Shady's conference room at the Gladstone Inn & Suites in Jamestown with Mayor Dwaine Heinrich as the keynote speaker. Heinrich is a Vietnam veteran. The Jamestown Drum and Bugle Corps will perform and there will be recognitions of Gold Star and Blue Star families and veterans' organizations.

Following the service, a wreath-lowering ceremony will be held at the Nickeus Park bridge, and veteran organizations, auxiliaries and the 20th Infantry group will hold remembrances at Fort Seward and cemeteries in Jamestown.

A Memorial Wall Ceremony at Fort Seward is also planned for 11 a.m. on Monday.

A luncheon, social and refreshments will follow at the All Vets Club in Jamestown for a freewill offering. All proceeds will go to the Jamestown Patriotic Council for future activities in the community.

American Legion Mayer-Morlock Post #250 will hold a Memorial Day program at the Gackle American Legion Hall at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, in Gackle.

Special entertainment will be provided by the Jamestown Community Choir.

All are invited to return to the Gackle Legion Hall following ceremonies at the Gackle and Alfred cemeteries for a potluck lunch.

Memorial Day services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Kensal Public School. Ted Foster will be the guest speaker. John Florhaug Post 103 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 103 will salute the dead at the Kensal and Catholic cemeteries following the services.

Dinner will be served at St. John's Catholic Church by the Kensal Cemetery Association.

The Pingree Cemetery Board will hold a Memorial Day program at 10:30 a.m. at Edmunds-Pingree Community Hall in Pingree. Col. Jerrad Krapp with the North Dakota Air National Guard 119th Wing will be the speaker. Krapp currently serves as the North Dakota Air National Guard's 119th Wing's intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance group commander.

Following the program, the group will go to the cemetery and decorate the graves followed by a meal catered at the Edmunds-Pingree Community Hall. TJ's Catering will cater the meal.

The Eckelson-Sanborn American Legion Auxiliary will hold a Memorial Day program at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sanborn.

A visitation to cemeteries will follow the program. If it is raining on Monday, visitation to the cemeteries will not be held.

After the visitation, lunch will be served at the Sanborn Community Center.

Rice-Deede Post 205 of Woodworth will hold its Memorial Day services at 9 a.m. at Pettibone Cemetery. Following the services, doughnuts and coffee will be served at Pettibone Community Hall.

Services will be held at Gem Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. at the Gem Cemetery in Woodworth. Joe Hall will be the guest speaker. A potluck dinner will follow the Woodworth service at Woodworth Fire Hall.
