Memorial Day celebrations, observances in DC, Maryland, Virginia

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Memorial Day weekend brings a multitude of annual observances and ceremonies to honor the fallen.

Here’s a look at some of the events around the DMV to honor those who served the country along with other events.

Observances:

Memorial Day Ceremony & Wreath Presentation

The Korean War Vetertans Memorial Foundation in Southwest D.C. will hold a ceremony and wreath-laying event. It will pay honor everyone who served the country along with those who sacrificed their lives during the Korean War.

Guests are invited to attend in person or watch the ceremony live here.

The ceremony will be held on Monday, May 27 from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Flowers of Remembrance Day

Everyone is invited to the Arlington National Cemetery and have the opportunity to walk across the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier plaza.

Flowers will be provided to visitors who are welcome to place one at headstones or columbarium niches around the cemetery.

The event will be held on Sunday, May 26, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade

The City of Rockville will be hosting its annual Memorial Day Celebration and Parade.

The parade will feature over 50 military units and community groups, marching units, dance troupes and more.

The event will be held on Monday, May 27. A musical tribute will began at 9 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 9 a.m. and then the parade will start at 10:30 a.m.

Events:

National Memorial Day Concert

The annual concert honors veterans, servicemen and women and military families.

Concertgoers are invited to watch in person on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in D.C. The program will also be livestreamed on PBS’ Youtube channel or its app.

The concert will start on Sunday, May 26 at 8 p.m. and will end at 9:30 p.m.

DC Black Pride

DC Black Pride is back to celebrate the African American LGBTQ+ community all weekend long.

Enjoy some live music, social events and celebrations, attend educational workshops and more.

The event will start on May 24 and end on May 27.

ViVa! Vienna!

This annual event, held in the Town of Vienna, is back again, offering attendees a fun-filled weekend full of rides, games, food and more.

ViVa! Vienna! will be open from Saturday, May 25 until Monday, May 27. All proceeds will towards local charities.
