Meltwater promises appeal of NY judge's ruling finding the company misuses AP content
NEW YORK (AP) -- Meltwater's chief executive says he is disappointed that a federal judge rejected the company's claims that its use of news content produced by The Associated Press is a fair use of AP's product.
Meltwater CEO Jorn Lyseggen (yorn LEE'-seh-gehn) said in a statement Thursday that the company strongly disagrees with a ruling by U.S. District Judge Denise Cote. He says the company is considering all options and looking forward to an appeal, confident an appeals court will see the case differently.
The judge ruled in the AP's favor Wednesday in its lawsuit accusing Meltwater of copying AP content and selling it to clients without paying licensing fees. AP President and CEO Gary Pruitt said the ruling makes it "crystal clear" that Meltwater wrongly used AP content.
