Melania Trump to remain in hospital for several days following successful kidney procedure, White House says
First Lady Melania Trump has undergone a successful kidney procedure and is recovering in hospital
The White House said Ms Trump underwent an “embolisation procedure” for a benign kidney condition.
She emerged without complications and will remain in a Washington-area medical centre for the duration of the week.
“The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere,” the White House said in a statement.
Donald Trump said as he was en route to visit her that Ms Trump was “in good spirits”.
Heading over to Walter Reed Medical Center to see our great First Lady, Melania. Successful procedure, she is in good spirits. Thank you to all of the well-wishers!

The 48-year-old wife of the president had in recent weeks unveiled an anti-bullying initiative she planned to make a focus of her tenure.
The “Be Best” campaign seeks to, among other things, help young people navigate their online lives without enduring abuse.
Days before the medical procedure, she joined Mr Trump for a White House event honouring military mothers and spouses.
“She has become a very, very popular First Lady,” Mr Trump noted after his wife made remarks.
