Melania Trump and her son Barron Trump's close-knit relationship is well documented as the high schooler transitions into adulthood. Reports suggest that the former first lady keeps Barron in a protective "bubble" at their sprawling Mar-a-Lago estate, with a source branding him as "little Melania."

Barron was set to make his political debut after he was shortlisted as an at-large candidate to represent Florida in the Republican Party National convention in July, but Melania's office claimed he had to "decline" because of "prior commitments."

Melania has always fiercely guarded her privacy and that of her son, Barron, whom she shares with former president Donald Trump. Not much is known about the 6-foot-7 teenager, as his mother has successfully kept him out of the spotlight for most of his life.

Barron, who recently turned 18, is understood to be Melania's priority as the former first lady maintains a tight grip over his affairs and schedule. She has reportedly renegotiated her prenup with Trump more than once to ensure that Barron's future is safe.

A source close to Melania told the DailyMail that she's locked herself in a "tight bubble" at their sprawling West Palm Beach resort and seemingly keeps her son in it as Trump continues to battle his New York hush money trial.

Although he has rarely been seen speaking in public, Barron favors his father's political efforts. He is reportedly keen on creating his platform as a potential foray into politics looms for him.

"He's so regal. He's a little Melania," the source said of Barron.

How much longer Melania can keep Barron in that "tight bubble" remains to be seen. He was recently named among Florida's at-large representatives for the Republican Party National Convention, which will be held in Milwaukee in July.

The teenager was shortlisted alongside his half-siblings, Donald Jr., Eric, and Tiffany Trump, to serve as delegates for the state of Florida. There, the siblings will officially inaugurate their father as the party's official flagbearer for this year's Presidential election.

Barron's political debut has since been squashed after reports from Melania's office surfaced, suggesting he had to "decline" the duty because of "prior commitments."

A spokeswoman for Melania said in a statement that "while Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments."

As he graduates from Oxbridge Academy today, his mother is expected to remain the sole decision-maker over his future, including where he will attend college.

According to People magazine, a source close to Melania revealed that she'll not be letting go of her firm grip on his future. She's already understood to be on the lookout for where he'll go to college.

"Melania will keep her hand on Barron's future just as much going forward as she has throughout his early and current school years," a source told the news outlet. "He is her world. She is proud of him, and she is the primary decision maker on Barron and his future."

The insider continued, "He is still young and has a lot in front of him. She wants him to be happy and settled in his future endeavors. She wants him to pursue what he wants to do. He is smart and has his own opinions but they are still being shaped."

Although the former president has claimed that he's "all for it" regarding his youngest son's plunge into politics, that seems to contradict Melania's stance on the issue.

Trump is currently battling a New York hush money trial where he has been accused of falsifying company records to cover up a $130,000 payment to former adult film star Stormy Daniels over an alleged one-night stand.

The billionaire politician had complained to Judge Juan Merchan, the judge presiding over the case, that he'd have to miss his youngest son's high school graduation, pleading for special consideration, which has since been granted.

However, Melania's former aid, Stephanie Grisham, noted that the former first lady wouldn't like Barron's name to be brought up in court.

According to the Daily Mail, Grisham claimed Melania "wasn't happy" that Trump talked about their son in the context of the case.

"He talked about missing Barron's graduation to the cameras and then again on Truth Social because it caused a lot of coverage about that, and it's just not something she would have liked," she said.

The mother-of-one is yet to make a court appearance to support Trump and has since distanced herself from weighing in on the case.

Judge Juan Merchan approved Trump's request to be allowed a day off from court so he could attend his son's graduation. However, the ex-president has other commitments to attend to on Friday.

According to reports, Trump is scheduled to give a keynote address at the Minnesota Republican Party's annual Lincoln Reagan Dinner on the same day as the graduation.

As a private jet owner, Trump can shuffle between both events, with  Barron's graduation reportedly starting in the morning.
