Meghan McCain Reveals Dad John McCain Is Returning Home to Arizona for Christmas
He’ll be home for Christmas.
The View‘s Meghan McCain took to Twitter on Sunday to share that her father, Sen. John McCain, who is battling brain cancer, was returning home to Arizona to spend Christmas with his family.
“Thank you to everyone for their kind words,” she tweeted. “My father is doing well and we are all looking forward to spending Christmas together in Arizona.”
“If you’re feeling charitable this Christmas @HeadfortheCure or @NBTStweets to help find a cure for brain cancer is what I recommend,” she added.
Sen. McCain tweeted Monday:

The 81-year-old senator left Washington, D.C., on Sunday, which means he’ll miss this week’s expected vote on the controversial GOP tax bill.

President Donald Trump told reporters on Sunday that the senator and his wife, Cindy McCain, have “headed back [to Arizona], but I understand he’ll come if we ever needed his help, which hopefully we won’t.”
“But the word is John will come back if we need his vote,” the president added, according to The Washington Post. “It’s too bad. He’s going through a very tough time, there’s no question about it. But he will come back if we need his vote.”
Trump also said he spoke to Cindy McCain by phone Sunday and “I wished her well. I wish John well.”

Sen. McCain was admitted last week to Walter Reed Medical Center, where he was treated for a viral infection stemming from his cancer treatment.
In a statement on Sunday, his office released a health update from Dr. Mark Gilbert, chief of neuro-oncology at the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute, ABC News reported.
“Senator McCain has responded well to treatment he received at Walter Reed Medical Center for a viral infection and continues to improve,” Gilbert said. “An evaluation of his underlying cancer shows he is responding positively to ongoing treatment.”
Sen. McCain’s office added that he “looks forward to returning to Washington in January.”
