Meghan Markle Had Her First Wedding Dress Fitting at Kensington Palace

Four months and counting. The bride of 2018, Meghan Markle, has selected a wedding dress designer ahead of her nuptials to Prince Harry, according to multiple reports.

“Meghan flew in her close friend and bridal stylist Jessica Mulroney from Toronto to London last weekend where she attended a top-secret fitting at Kensington Palace with the designer,” royal biographer Omid Scobie told ABC News Friday, January 19. “They’ve tried on a number of different designs and are currently whittling it down to pick the best design for the day.”

Markle has voiced her preferences throughout the process, particularly pertaining to the dress. “Meghan expressed the desire to wear something simple and classy and very elegant,” Scobie added.

The actress has previously voiced her thoughts about her favorite designers, telling Glamour even before she started dating Prince Harry: “I have the luxury of wearing beautiful pieces of clothing every day for work, so my personal style—wedding or not—is very pared down and relaxed. Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist. I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic.”

Markle shared in that same interview that prefers designers like Delphine Manivet, Christos Costarellos, Ellie Saab and J. Mendel. It’s speculated that she will select a British or Canadian designer.

Mulroney, meanwhile, is a Hollywood stylist who’s worked in bridal—and she’s best friends with Markle. She reportedly joined the Suits actress at Nottingham Cottage to walk through the custom dress process ahead of the couple’s wedding date of May 19. Mulroney will be on hand to help Markle with the planning process as well.

While Harry and Markle have yet to send wedding invitations, the two have supposedly told friends to hold that date. In the interim, Harry has ducked away from the planning process to allow his future wife and her friends secure meetings and a variety of elements.

“Harry made himself scarce, giving the girls plenty of private time to kind of have their meetings with the designers and, of course, choose other wedding elements,” Scobie concluded. “Harry’s kind of made it clear that he wants to make this about Meghan.”
