Why is Meghan Markle always touching her hair?

You’ll often notice Meghan Markle either touching her hair or running her hands through her gorgeous locks — and body language expert Blanca Cobb believes there could be a good reason why.

“Some people touch their hair, play with their fingernails, or rub their arms as a way to psychologically and physiologically calm themselves when they’re feeling anxious, uncomfortable, or stressed,” Cobb, the author of Method of the Masters, told GoodHousekeeping.

“Some people might touch, twirl, or stroke their hair when in awkward social situations, such as when they’re not sure what to do or what to say.”

Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, are set to get married on May 19 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Could her hair touching be a way to pacify pre-wedding jitters, or is it simply a habit?

According to Cobb, context is key.

“For example, if someone frequently touches their hair in a variety of nonstressful situations, such as talking on the phone, reading a book, or watching TV, then it’s more likely a habit they’re not even aware of. If, however, they tend to touch their hair when having a heated discussion or they’re uncomfortable with someone around them, then it’s more likely a body language tell.”

Markle touched her hair a few times during her official engagement announcement. Cobb suggests that the shots of the bride-to-be with her head tilted slightly may have represented a soothing gesture.

“Her head is also tilted down slightly. Sometimes when you feel too much attention, you might tuck your chin down as a way to shield yourself.”

Here’s an older snap of Markle out for dinner in 2015 — no surprise, this hair touch might represent confidence, Cobb suggests.

“With her head tilted, exposing her neck, which is a vulnerable part of the body, and hip pop, Meghan oozes allure. The way she’s holding her hair suggests that she’s being playful with the camera,” Cobb told Good Housekeeping.

Whatever the context, Markle has some gorgeous tresses!
