For months, the royal-obsessed have been speculating how Meghan would wear her hair and makeup for her upcoming wedding. All throughout her engagement, she gravitated toward effortless blowouts and loose low buns with face-framing pieces, paired with a subtle smoky eye. But for the actual big day, Meghan rolled up -in a Rolls Royce, no less- with her hair styled in a slightly more formal version of her signature updo with natural-looking makeup.

Personally, I had my money on a half-up style similar to Kate Middleton's wedding day look, but Meghan never ceases to surprise me with her own twist on royal style, as she should. But her timeless updo isn't the only styling choice that was different from royal brides before her. Here are four ways Meghan made her bridal beauty look totally unique.

1. Her updo hairstyle

Diana wore her short crop down and styled and, as I mentioned earlier, Kate wore hers half up, while Meghan went with a full-on updo by Serge Normant. At first glance, Meghan's hair might look like a traditional formal updo, but notice the face-framing fringe tucked behind her ears.

2. Her freckles and fresh face

Kate famously did her own makeup for her nuptials, and she chose to do a dark outlined eye with lots of blush. Meghan, on the other hand, had makeup artist Daniel Martin create her look, which featured a more natural style that consisted of a soft brown eyeshadow, minimal face makeup, and a light flush of blush, which allowed Meghan's freckles to show through flawlessly.

3. Her tiara

Princess Diana wore the Spencer family tiara, and Kate wore the Cartier Halo tiara, which she loaned from the Queen. But Meghan went with a totally different choice: Queen Mary's diamond bandeau tiara.

4. Her veil length

Kate wore a mid-length veil with lace trim, and while Meghan's veil is also trimmed with lace, the length of her stunning cathedral veil (five meters long!) is more similar to Diana's, but dare I say longer?!
