Megan Fox’s Brow Expert Reveals Her Genius At-Home Grooming Tricks

Without a professional on call, shaping your brows at home might seem like a major challenge. Are you going to pluck too many hairs? How do you know what the perfect shape is for your face? So to answer our questions, we enlisted Tonya Crooks — a.k.a. The BrowGal — who is the master behind Megan Fox, Julia Roberts, Fergie, and more stars’ arches. Here, a few of her must-have tricks — and for the full scoop, watch the video above!

The first thing Crooks looks at is the shape of the brow, and advises sticking to it, rather than trying to create a new shape based on a favorite celebrity look. “You don’t want to make an arc an arch, or an arch an arc,” she says.

After determining your shape, the next step is to create a pattern for what you want your groomed brows to look like. Crooks takes a sharp, firm pencil and fills in the brows, creating smooth lines on the top and bottom of the arches.

Once your pattern is drawn, it’s time to groom them, which she does in four quadrants: two on the top and two on the bottom, which she says is useful for either tweezing or waxing. If you’re tweezing, remove the hairs row by row instead of plucking groups of hairs at a time, which poses the risk of pulling too much. And if you’re waxing, apply a pre-wax treatment (it creates a barrier between the wax and your skin to prevent pain) and use a very small amount of wax, which will ensure that you’re only removing the necessary hairs.
