Mega-platinum band Train plays Foxwoods Friday

Aug. 18—Train is one of those bands whose sonic evolution put some poppy melted butter on the burnt toast of their formative post-grunge years. Most folks casually associate them with the ubiquitous hit "Drops of Jupiter," a song that for some reason turns me into the Werewolf of Irritation but seems to make the rest of the planet very happy.

I also sort of think of Train as singer Pat Monahan and, ah, the other three guys that have always been there.Turns out Monahan's the only original member and, in fact, there have been 14 different guys who've been in Train over the course of the band's existence. Not sure how they carve all the royalties up, but Train has sold over 10 million albums and scored addition hits with such tunes as "Hey, Soul Sister," "Meet Virginia," "Calling All Angels," "Play That Song."

Expect a big crowd Friday when Train headlines the Premier Theater at Foxwoods.

Oh, and this is cool: Train recorded the entire "Led Zeppelin II" album and released it in 2016, with all proceeds going to charity. Now, if we can just get Zep to reunite and record "Drops of Jupiter" and donate all the proceeds to me!

Train, 8 p.m. Friday, Premier Theater, Foxwoods; $69-$99;
