Mega Millions jackpot tops $600 million for Friday's drawing - 8th largest ever

The Mega Millions jackpot is now over $600 million!

No one won it all in Tuesday so the jackpot will climb to $607 million for Friday night's drawing, according to the Mega Millions website

In addition to being No. 8 on the Mega Millions jackpot list, Friday's jackpot will also be the 20th largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever. (See lists below)

The jackpot was last won on Dec. 8 when two California tickets sold at same location split $394 million Mega Millions jackpot.

What does cash option mean?

The major lotteries in the United States offer two jackpot payout options: annuity and cash.

The annuity option is paid out over time. There is an immediate payment and then 29 annual payments after that, increasing by 5% each year. The cash option is significantly lower than the advertised jackpot, but it is paid in a lump sum. You don't have to wait decades for all the money.
