Meet PeeDee: Abandoned puppy could find new purpose changing lives with Price Police Department

PRICE, Utah (ABC4) — A two-month-old puppy found abandoned in freezing conditions on the side of a highway near Price could get a second lease on life as a very special K-9 officer.

According to Price Police, a motorist noticed a box on the roadside on Feb. 10. As they approached the box, they saw a puppy’s head peeking over the top. Pulling over to check on the dog, the motorist also found a paper listing the puppy’s breed, birthdate, and even his vaccination chart.

Police say no one has come forward to claim the pup — so the department is making him one of their own.

“Since nobody has come forward, the puppy has been named PeeDee and we are working towards getting him certified and trained as a Critical Incident Emotional Support Dog,” stated the department in a Facebook post. “We’ve got a long road ahead of us, but we are excited for him to be able to spread the same love and joy to others that he has already provided for our police family.”

The same night as the puppy was found, officers brought PeeDee to an off-duty party, and it appeared he melted hearts.

“It didn’t take long before there were numerous officers who offered to foster the puppy while attempts were made to locate an owner,” stated the Facebook post. “Chief [Brandon] Sicilia took responsibility for the puppy at that time.”

While a local Tractor Supply store donated a bed, some toys, and food for PeeDee, police say they’re still looking for supplies to help support the pup. Donations to help support PeeDee can be dropped off at Price City Hall on Main Street or the Price Police Department on N. 700 East.
