CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A Mecklenburg County detention officer was fired from her job after being accused of providing contraband to an inmate.

The sheriff’s office reportedly opened an investigation into allegations against Gordon and found that her actions were in violation of state law. She was charged with and arrested on that offense Thursday afternoon.

“The operation of a facility like Detention Center-Central presents innumerable challenges on the best of days,” Sheriff Garry McFadden said. “Almost all of these are challenges we accept and embrace at MCSO. But when a staff member violates their oath and the trust I placed in them, it creates a challenge that is unacceptable and intolerable.”

This is the second sheriff’s office employee who lost their job in the last week for criminal activity. Deputy James Scott was arrested for violating a domestic violence protective order in over the weekend.
