Meals on Wheels event kicks off in Stroudsburg

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — This week, Meals on Wheels is holding its Annual Community Champions Week, where local officials volunteer their time to help distribute food to those in need.

This week is known in the organization as Community Champions Week, a way to shine a spotlight on their program that gives local officials the opportunity to learn more about who they are and how important Meals on Wheels is to the community.

Jennifer Shu-Kaitis was Monday’s community champion.

Meals on Wheels provides more than 125,000 meals per year to more than 500 people in Monroe County.

“We are the sole local, home-delivered meal provider in the county and we serve anyone over the age of 18, that’s unable to shop for or prepare meals for themselves due to a physical or mental health condition. Our clients do regularly reach out to us and let us know how grateful they are for the service and how important it is to them,” said Monroe County Meals on Wheels Executive Director Alyssa Koeck.

Meals on Wheels will continue throughout the week with different local officials in attendance.
