McLaren Racing confirms Felix Rosenqvist will remain with team in IndyCar or Formula E

McLaren Racing announced Thursday that driver Felix Rosenqvist will remain with the team for "2023 and beyond" in IndyCar or Formula E, according to a news release. The announcement confirms IndyStar's reporting from earlier this month.

McLaren will launch its Formula E team next season and is expanding its IndyCar team to three cars; it has been linked to defending series champion Alex Palou, currently with Chip Ganassi Racing. Rosenqvist competed in Formula E, an all-electric series, from 2016 to 2019, winning three races, six pole positions and seven podiums.

“I’m delighted to be remaining with McLaren for 2023 and beyond," Rosenqvist said in the news release. "With the team expanding into Formula E next season, it provides additional opportunities for me both in the USA and Europe and I look forward to being in a position to announce my plans in the coming weeks.”

More: Despite recent confirmations for O'Ward, Rossi, Kirkwood, IndyCar Silly Season busier than ever

Rosenqvist has been with Arrow McLaren SP in IndyCar since 2021, previously winning the series' rookie of the year in 2019 and earning three podiums and two poles. He finished fourth in the Indianapolis 500 this year.

"As a proven race winner in both (series), it was important for us to secure his talent within the McLaren Racing family as we work to finalize our plans for 2023," McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said. "His experience in Formula E would be invaluable as we head into this exciting new era of racing for McLaren Racing but he has also made a fantastic contribution to our IndyCar team."
