McLaren plans new emergency room near Grand Ledge

GRAND LEDGE, Mich. (WLNS) – McLaren of Greater Lansing has announced a emergency room facility to operate in Grand Ledge.

The new facility could give residents and visitors a life-saving option.

Officials from McLaren announced they intend to build a $40 million, state-of-the-art emergency facility by the end of 2025.

Getting to an emergency room can take as much as 15 minutes, officials said, noting the closest emergency room facility is at Sparrow Health Systems on Michigan Ave. Those 15 minutes can be critical to outcomes, particularly for patients experiencing a stroke or other cardiac events.

The new facility will be located just five minutes from Grand Ledge and offer emergency medicine’s top diagnostic tools including an MRI and x-rays.

Residents and visitors of Grand Ledge will soon have easier access to emergency health care.. after mclaren announced plans to build a new e-r in the city.

For McLaren President Kirk Ray, the move is good for both the community and the hospital system.

“Really, it’s about creating access for, you know, when you need emergency services, you need them immediately,” said Ray.  And, so, there’s really not anything in close driving capacity to that area, which is a growing market. And so as that area continues to grow and the housing continues to develop, that was a market we felt would be really good for growth opportunity in the future.”

In addition to providing services to the current residents of Grand Ledge and the surrounding community, officials from McLaren said it was important to get the new facility operational to coincide with the opening of the new battery plant.

The hospital just completed a new $600 million facility on Collins Rd. in Lansing.

The decision to put a new ER facility in Grand Ledge is indicative of expectations for the area to experience a growth spurt.
