McDonald Co. HS students commit to military service in signing ceremony

MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. — Several McDonald County High School (MCHS) students were surrounded by their loved ones today as they made a commitment to the military.

McDonald County Schools celebrated with a signing ceremony today in the high school gymnasium for the five seniors that are enlisting in the military. Stacy Lopez is signing with the Navy. Keisha Roponei will head to the Missouri National Guard. Both William Rector and Ayden Ball are enlisting with the Marines, while Sam Brewer is joining the Army.

“My whole life, I just grew up around people who had been in the military, who had been around the military, had people who were in the military, who were in my family and it’s just always it was always an honorable thing to do. And that that’s something I wanted to do. I wanted to serve and protect,” said Ayden Ball, MCHS Senior.

“When I was younger, I used to play all the Call of Duty games and I’d used to be super, just like, ‘Wow, I wonder what it would be like to just be in their shoes’ and just serve and do the hearts and minds stuff and ever since I was younger, ever since I played those games, I was just always inspired to help my community and just like strive to be the best I can be to serve my country one day,” said Sam Brewer, MCHS Senior.

Ball will deploy on July 15th and Brewer will be heading out on June 3rd for basic training.
