McCain Denounces Morsi's Move for Greater Power

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., criticized Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Sunday for his move this week to exempt his decrees from judicial review, a position that has met with widespread criticism in Egypt.

“This kind of power is unacceptable to the United States of America,” McCain said on Fox News Sunday.

McCain said the U.S. “can outline what actions might be taken” by the country’s judiciary system to limit Morsi. But first, McCain said, the U.S. must “condemn” Morsi’s actions.

McCain justified an American role by bringing up U.S. aid to Egypt, saying Morsi's actions are not “what the American taxpayers expect” from a developing democracy.
