Mayor: NYC expects to recoup its Sandy expenses

Bloomberg: NYC expects to recoup all of its $4.5 billion in Sandy expenses via federal aid

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he expects that all of New York City's $4.5 billion in Superstorm Sandy expenses will be covered by federal aid.

Bloomberg discussed the Oct. 29 storm and its effect on the city's finances Tuesday as he unveiled his budget plan.

He says the $4.5 billion figure includes emergency public services and damages to public infrastructure.

Sandy has been a big question mark in the city's financial picture.

Bloomberg says city officials are grateful for Congressional action on funding.

He says it also will help make New York City more storm-resilient in the future.
