Mayo Clinic named best hospital in the world

Feb. 28—ROCHESTER — With a

strong financial performance in 2023,

Mayo Clinic is also being recognized as the best hospital in the world.

The recognition comes with Newsweek's list of the "World's Best Hospitals," which Mayo has topped for six years. Mayo Clinic locations in Florida and Arizona were also "highly ranked," according to a statement from Mayo Clinic.

"Mayo Clinic's No. 1 ranking is the result of our dedicated staff, who deliver unparalleled, compassionate care to our patients," Dr. Gianrico Farrugia, Mayo Clinic president and CEO, said in the statement announcing the rankings. "Patients expect and deserve category-of-one experiences from their healthcare teams, and we remain committed to setting the standard for excellence while also leading healthcare transformation for our patients and patients everywhere."

The Newsweek rankings are based on patient survey results, an international survey of more than 80,000 health care professionals, performance metrics including patient safety and quality of care, and patient-reported outcomes.

Mayo Clinic is also making significant investments in Rochester, including a $5 billion expansion project with the "Bold. Forward. Unbound. In Rochester." initiative. The

new clinical buildings

will be "infused with technology to improve care delivery,"Dr. Amy Williams, Mayo Clinic executive dean of practice, told the Post Bulletin in November 2023.

"The goal is not simply more buildings, but better spaces that bring teams and patients together in an environment where technology, including AI, is running in the background to support the patient and care team," Dr. Farrugia said in the statement. "Our spaces are being designed to transform the patient and staff experience, blur the lines between inpatient and outpatient care, advance teamwork, create more cures, and improve patient outcomes."
