So, we’re mostly familiar with Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler in The Big Bang Theory, but let’s not forget that she appeared in Beaches back in 1988, playing the younger version of Bette Midler’s character.

This was before the Blossom days even, when she was just 11 years old! Bialik recently reunited with her co-star from Beaches, Marcie Leeds, and they had a nice lunch, caught up on lost time, and…

… re-enacted the opening scene of the film as a tribute to the director Garry Marshall, who recently passed away.

They had some help from Bialik’s kids of course, and a young director called Chad.

Is this making you nostalgic?!? Should we compare it to the original scene? OKAY IF YOU INSIST.

During this special reunion, Bialik interviewed Leeds about her life as a surgeon – including the time when she operated on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords after she was shot in the head – and her decision to leave the acting world.

The reason is not what you’d think:

“After Beaches, I did an episode of [the 1990 TV show] Parenthood with Leonardo DiCaprio. That was the first time I had kissed anyone and it was actually really heavy and weird for me, so I decided that having to deal with stuff like that was not what I wanted to do. I decided after that to leave acting.”

Even though Leeds left acting, Beaches is such a classic. She’ll always have a place in our movie hearts!

It’s great to see these two back together and having fun. You can read Bialik’s entire interview with Leeds via her blog. BRB… we’re going to watch Beaches.
