Mayflower II towed through Cape Cod Canal Thursday morning on journey home to Plymouth

The Mayflower II passed through the Cape Cod Canal around 7:15 a.m. Thursday, as people lined the shore to watch.

The ship, a historic reproduction, is on its way home to Pilgrim Memorial State Park in Plymouth, after a winter spent in dry dock in Mystic, Connecticut for routine maintenance.

The 102-foot wooden vessel did not use its sails for the journey. Instead, it was towed the entire way by Stasinos Marine out of Weymouth. It was expected to be crewed by the Plimoth Patuxet maritime preservation and operations team led by Capt. Whit Perry.

Crew were not expected to be in period costumes for the voyage.
