MaxPreps Top 25 national high school softball rankings

Mission Viejo High School remained atop the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 by winning a trio of pitching duels last week to run its record to 11-0.

The nation's No. 1 ranked team beat Los Alamitos (Calif.), 3-2, Saugus (Calif.) 1-0 and previously ranked Pacifica (Garden Grove, Calif.), 2-0.

No. 2 rated Alexander Central (Taylorsville, N.C.), won three games and ran its win streak to 77 and Pioneer (San Jose Calif.), ran its win streak to nine and jumped from No. 9 to No. 3.

New to the Top 10 this week are a pair of Texas squads (Aledo and Rockwall), along with St. Amant (La.).

Also new to the Top 25 this week are Central (Fresno, Calif.), Meade (Bradenberg, Ky.), Pinnacle (Phoenix), Bradford (Starke, Fla.) and Southside (Gadsen, Ala.).

1. (No. 1 last week) Mission Viejo (Calif.), 11-0
Recorded 2-0 win over previously ranked Pacifica (Garden Grove, Calif.). MVHS also recorded three other one-run wins. MVHS has outscored its opponents by a 61-6 margin.

2. (2) Alexander Central (Taylorsville, N.C.), 9-0
The Cougars ran their win streak to 77 and have scored 84 while allowing just six.

3. (4) Pioneer (San Jose, Calif.), 9-0
Pioneer has six shutouts and allowed just one run in three other games.

4. (6) Atascocita (Humble, Texas), 15-1
Shelby McGlaun is hitting .619 and has posted a 11-0 pitching record.

5. (8) Orange Lutheran (Calif.), 14-0
Scored 46 runs in last four wins.

6. (10) Hagerty (Oviedo, Fla.), 16-1
Since losing, Hagerty has won 10 straight and Samantha Worrell has a national leading 10 home runs and is 6-1 with a 1.18 ERA.

7. (7) Crown Point (Ind.), 0-0
The Bulldogs open the season on Saturday.

8. (12) Aledo (Texas), 10-0
The Lady Bearcats have run their win streak to 40.

In running its record to 1-0, St. Amant outscored four opponents 33-3 last week.

Edwardsville was 36-4 a year ago and open season April 11.

Unbeaten Shelby Wilkison (12-0, 0.37 ERA) is getting a lot of support from team hitting .314

The Grizzlies have won 12 straight and pitchers Gianna Mancha and Ciera Montalvo have combined for a 0.64 ERA.

14. (20) Santiago (Corona, Calif.), 13-1
The Sharks have 10 straight wins.

15. (16) La Grange (Texas), 19-0
LaGrange has won 25 straight as Blake-Ann Fritsch, Kristy Bertsch and Hatti Moore has scored 22 runs each.

16. (18) Neshoba Central (Philadelphia, Miss.), 8-0
Led by Hailey Lunderman's .545 average, team is hitting .311.

17. (17) North Little Rock (Ark.) 0-0
Reigning 7A state champions season opener is Thursday against Jonesboro (Ark.).

18. (23) Viera (Fla.), 19-1
Kiana East has 28 RBIs and a dozen doubles as well as 12-1 record with 1.47 ERA.

19. (14) Forest (Ocala, Fla.), 16-1
Forest allowed three runs in bottom of seventh and lost 7-6 to 14-4 Belleview (Fla.).

20. (NR) Meade County (Brandenburg, Ky.), 8-0
It has been said "good teams win close games" and Meade has four one-run wins this season.

21. (NR) Pinnacle (Phoenix), 11-1
Seven starters are hitting over .300 and a trio of pitchers have combined for a 0.99 ERA.

22. (22) Washburn Rural (Topeka, Kan.), 0-0
Returning state champions open season on April 3.

23. (25) Curry (Jasper, Ala.) 20-1
Eleven straight wins and last four by shutouts move Curry up the poll ladder. Haleigh Lane has hot bat (.488).

Season opener is April 11.
