Matters of Graves Importance: March didn't roar in like a lion, but maybe as a sassy lamb

I feel like March came in like a confused, wounded lion. Or did it come in like a sassy, teenage lamb? It was cold and windy on March 1, but it wasn’t THAT cold and windy. I mean, we didn’t have snow or below-zero temperatures, we merely had an irritable weather day. Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow in February predicting an early spring and I am not so sure we can trust that anymore. Speculation has arisen that Phil's use of Ozempic may have reduced the size of his backside, potentially affecting the visibility of his shadow. The good news is we live in Ohio and we are used to weather puzzles with missing pieces. Doesn’t everyone have three seasons of clothing in their car? More good news is coming up if you keep reading. There is a lot to do around the Ross County area this weekend.

Thursday

Join the Pioneer Center/Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities for their annual Art Show at The Pump House Center for the Arts. Browse artwork made by talented local individuals while enjoying refreshments provided by Mares Cares Counseling, LLC. While you are there, if you see a work you like, you may purchase it to add to your art collection. Pioneer proceeds from art sales will go to the individuals and the organization. The show will run through March and opening night is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday

I picked three couples to compete in the Not So Newlywed Game Variety Hour at The Pour House at Machinery Hall and they are… Jared and Analeea Davies, Kazy and Jessie Richmond, and Jon and Suellen Schobelock. We will do regular NW question rounds but, before that, the couples will compete in a few "minute to win it" challenges. Make table reservations by calling 740-771-4770 to join us for an evening of fun. Catch Luke Trimble at Steiner’s Speakeasy beginning at 9 p.m.

Looking ahead

Art, music, and light refreshments highlight the evening when the Chillicothe Art League’s annual Spring Open Exhibition takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28 at the Pump House Center for the Arts. Get out and enjoy this free event featuring the artwork of over 40 artists.

April 5 the Majestic Theatre Chillicothe brings Lights Out to the theatre. Lights Out is a four-part vocal group that is being hailed as "America's #1 Tribute to Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons." This popular multi-talented group has been entertaining audiences for years. With their infectious personalities, and their love of meeting the people who see them perform, Lights Out's shows are a must-see. Featuring the hits: "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Walk Like A Man," "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You," "Let's Hang On," "Oh What a Night" and more.

Until next time. I hope to see you out laughing.
