Matt LeBlanc may quit Top Gear… if Chris Evans isn’t sacked

‘Top Gear’ host, Matt LeBlanc has had enough of Chris Evans.

According to The Sun, the 48-year-old former ‘Friends’ star is threatening to quit ‘Top Gear’… unless the BBC gets rid of Chris Evans.

“Top Gear host Matt Le Blanc has vowed to quit the BBC show unless Chris Evans is given the boot,” they revealed. “Sources on the crisis-hit programme say Matt has grown increasingly frustrated with his co-star’s rudeness and frosty attitude towards the team.”

Chris Evans has proved to be a rather unpopular choice since the show returned… and most fans remain unhappy with the decision to hand him the reins of the popular BBC car show.

And it sounds as though Matt LeBlanc has had enough.

“[Our Sources] told how [LeBlanc] delivered a crushing ultimatum by announcing he will have no part in any future series that features Chris.”

Of course, there have been rumours about ructions behind-the-scenes since before the new series aired… with many news outlets reporting that Evans and LeBlanc – who co-host the new series of ‘Top Gear’ – haven’t seen eye to eye since they began filming.

And that’s not the only problem.

At the end of last year, ‘Top Gear’ executive producer Lisa Clark quit the show, amid claims that Chris Evans was a bit of a diva on set. A behind-the-scenes source alleged that the ‘Top Gear’ presenter thought he could “trample over everyone”.

But The BBC has denied these claims.

We’ve also seen rumours that Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc have been at each other’s throats since the new series began filming. Matt LeBlanc’s controversial Cenotaph stunt – where he reportedly drove donuts around the war memorial – has since been cut from the show… but apparently Chris Evans was unhappy, and thinks LeBlanc damaged the brand.

“Matt was never Chris’s choice,” a source told The Sun. “It was a decision forced upon him to attract the US market.”

“He accepted it and was desperate to strike up a bond when they were filming, but the spark just wasn’t there,” they added. “Since the Cenotaph, their relationship’s deteriorated. Chris thinks Matt severely damaged the brand. Behind the scenes it’s very frosty between them.”

Of course, the pair have since denied any behind-the-scenes tension…

But that’s likely an attempt to stop the spat from affecting the show’s reputation.

“I’m at war with @achrisevans?” said LeBlanc via Twitter. “That’s funny, I thought we were pals.”

But have the mixed reactions to the show caused their relationship to break down even further? Will Matt LeBlanc really quit if Evans doesn’t go first?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But with a second new series due to begin filming in September, the BBC had better sort this one out, and quick.
