A match from Germany

Nov. 24—BATH TOWNSHIP — Jadyn Plaugher's last hope will arrive on a plane from Germany.

The 21-year-old Plaugher is in remission after seven months of chemotherapy for B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which doctors discovered on April 18.

But a mutation in his genes means Plaugher can't stay in remission on his own.

Instead, he'll need the help of a 22-year-old man from Germany, whose bone marrow was deemed the best match for a transplant, to keep the cancer cells from returning.

"This is it," said Jackie Wold, Plaugher's mother. "We have to do this."

Plaugher will undergo the bone marrow transplant on Nov. 30 at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.

But Plaugher was in high spirits Wednesday as friends and family drove past his home, honking and cheering him on from a safe distance while Plaugher prepares for surgery.

"It's going to be awesome, a great day," Plaugher said. "Everything's going to be good."
