Mass. jobless rate holds steady in November

Jobless rate in Massachusetts holds steady at 6.6 percent in November, but 1,100 jobs lost

BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts lost more than one thousand jobs in November, but the state's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.6 percent.

The state office of Labor and Workforce Development released the latest monthly jobs numbers on Thursday.

The preliminary estimate of 1,100 jobs lost last month comes on the heels of a revised gain of 11,900 jobs in October.

Massachusetts remains below the national unemployment rate, which fell to a four-year low of 7.7 percent in November. But the state jobless rate has climbed by more than half a point since June.

State officials point out that Massachusetts has picked up more than 46,000 private sector jobs in the past 12 months, and the unemployment rate is 0.4 percent lower than it was at this time a year ago.
