Mass Evacuation Announced in Orenburg Following Severe Flooding

The mayor of Orenburg, Russia, Sergei Salmin, announced a mass evacuation on Friday, April 12, as emergency services continued rescue operations following the initial evacuation of more than 1,500 people.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said that rescue teams were using motor pumps and hose lines to pump out water from the basements of flooded homes on Friday.

It also added that rescue teams had been redeployed from Orsk, were floodwaters were receding, to assist in operations in Orenburg.
