Masked intruders injure homeowner in violent break-in

Several masked intruders broke in to a home in Redlands, injuring one of the residents as another tried to fight them off with a cane.

It happened around 1 a.m. Sunday morning at a home on the 700 block of Concord Lane, according to the Redlands Police Department.

Police say four to five masked suspects kicked open a back door to the home, which set off a security alarm.

The residents were awoken by the alarm and one of the people inside attempted to fight the intruders off with a cane.

Several of the burglars went upstairs and woke the homeowners’ sleeping son, forcing him downstairs to join his parents as the crew ransacked the home.

The suspects eventually left empty handed, police said.

Authorities set up a perimeter and searched the neighborhood, but the suspects were able to get away.

One of the residents was injured during the break-in, tripping and hitting her head as she tried to get away from the intruders. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and her current condition is unclear.

The break-in remains under investigation and police have not said if there is a clear motive at this time.
