Masked individuals steal cash registers from CT gas station, smash clerk’s phone

Multiple cash registers were stolen by masked individuals at a gas station in Bloomfield early Monday during an incident police described as a larceny involving “intimidation.”

The incident was reported at 3:30 a.m. at the Shell gas station at 991 Blue Hills Ave., according to Capt. Stephen Hajdasz of the Bloomfield Police Department.

In a statement issued Monday, Hajdasz said three individuals wearing masks and gloves entered the store and immediately walked behind the counter, where they stole two cash registers. There were no threats made or any weapons displayed, according to Hajdasz.

As the masked individuals were leaving the store, one of them “forcibly took” the clerk’s iPhone and smashed it on the floor, Hajdasz said.

The thieves left the area in two vehicles that were last seen heading south on Blue Hills Avenue.

According to Hajdasz, the clerk was not able to provide a description of the individuals.

In his statement, Hajdasz called the incident a “larceny-intimidation.” He did not refer to it as a robbery.

The incident remains under investigation.
