Maryland weather: Showers expected on primary day

May 12—A backdrop of rain and thunder is expected to settle around Baltimore as polls close for Maryland's primary election on Tuesday.

Temperatures on Tuesday afternoon will reach the low 70s before likely showers and possible thunderstorms are forecast after 2 p.m. The chance of precipitation is expected to rise from 60% in the evening to 90% at night, when temperatures drop into the 60s, according to the National Weather Service.

Wednesday is expected to have a 90% chance of rain in the morning and afternoon with temperatures in the 60s. A chance of showers is forecast to extend into early Thursday morning.

Thursday afternoon temperatures are expected to hit the mid-70s as rain gives way to partly sunny skies. A chance of rain is forecast to return Friday night. The chance of precipitation is 60% Friday night.

Saturday — Preakness Day — is expected to have temperatures in the 70s with a 60% chance of rain most of the day.
