Marvel goes to the Dark Side with brand new ‘Darth Vader’ comic

While Darth Vader might be old news when it comes to the big screen Star Wars franchise, fans the world over still regard him as the most fearsome of villains from that galaxy far, far away. To that end, Marvel Entertainment and Lucasfilm Ltd. announced Monday that the Sith Lord formerly known as Anakin Skywalker will be receiving his very own, all new comic book series starting this June.

Writer Charles Soule (Poe Dameron, Astonishing X-Men) will team up with acclaimed artist Giuseppe Camuncoli (Amazing Spider-Man) to tell the story of Vader’s rise to power. The story will pick up directly after the harrowing events in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, chronicling the construction of his red lightsaber, the fallout of Order 66, the beginnings of the Inquisitor program, and much more.

“I’m so excited that we get to tell more stories about the best villain of all time…and this time, we get to show his very first steps into the Dark Side,” said series editor, Jordan D. White, in a release. “I was blown away by some of the stuff we plan to show in this series…and I think readers will be, too—from hardcore Star Wars fanatics to those who want to see more of that deadly threat from the end of Rogue One. Charles has an evil streak in him that readers might have seen whenever he’s written Palpatine in the past. Now, that comes front and center.”

Darth Vader #1 will be on comic book stands starting this June.
