Ridley Scott will produce the "Blade Runner" sequel but won't helm it.

Last May, it was announced that the "Prometheus" director was in talks with 20th Century Fox to direct "The Martian" starring Matt Damon. Simon Kinberg (who wrote the script for "X-Men: Days of future Past" and "Mr & Mrs Smith"), one the film's main producers, has now confirmed it will be Scott's next film.

"The Martian," adapted from Andy Weir's novel of the same name, will show a member of a space mission (Matt Damon) who gets lost on Mars after his colleagues hastily left, thinking he was dead.

Ridley Scott is currently in post-production for "Exodus" starring Christian Bale ("The Dark Knight") and Sigourney Weaver ("Avatar").

As for Matt Damon, he starred in "The Monuments Men" this year.

Filming on "The Martian" is expected to start this fall.
