According to police, two men were sitting in their vehicles when a man they knew as “Woo” walked up to them and started arguing with one of them. “Woo” would later be identified as Echols.

Police say Echols pulled a gun and shot one of them two times. Echols allegedly shot the other man as he ran away from the scene. One of the men was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to police, the Memphis Police Department Homicide Bureau received several CrimeStoppers tips on April 21 which helped develop Echols as the suspect. A warrant was issued for Echols arrest the next day.

The U.S. Marshals say Echols, who was previously convicted of aggravated assault, was taken into custody without any resistance.

Echols has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
