Marshall County animal clinics, hospitals taking part in Spring 2024 ‘Chip-A-Thon’

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Multiple animal clinics and animal hospitals in Marshall County are taking part in the Spring 2024 $25 ‘Chip-A-Thon.’

The event allows pet owners in Albertville, Guntersville, Arab and Boaz to get their pets microchipped in April so they can ensure their furry friends get home if they get lost or stolen!

According to the Marshall County Animal Watch, one out of every three pets goes missing every year.

“Having companion animals microchipped dramatically improves the chances of having lost, misplaced or stolen pets reunited with the people who love and care for them. This reduces the number of animals entering shelters or helps them get back home quickly, which cuts down on tax dollars spent to care for them. It also avoids having their lives be put at risk in a shelter where they may be destroyed,” the organization stated in a press release.

The microchipping costs a $25 flat fee, which includes the cost of registration.

A microchip is not a GPS device, it is used for easy identification. The microchip is only about the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under your pet’s skin. The chip contains a unique code, which can be scanned to determine who owns the pet.

Anyone interested in having their pet microchipped can contact the locations below to schedule an appointment, if they are required. McCory Animal Hospital does microchipping by walk-in only.

Proof of rabies vaccination is required. If your pet is not already vaccinated, you must arrange with the location of your choice to pay for that service.
