Mark Wahlberg Built a Golf Course in His Backyard—and You Can, Too

Why lug your clubs to a golf course when you can just tee up on your own property? That, at least, is what Mark Wahlberg must have been thinking recently when he decided to build his own personal golf course in his backyard. Take that, Trump!

“Shout out to Dominic Nappi and his crew at Back Nine Greens,” Wahlberg wrote on Instagram with a pic of him in front of rolling hills and sand dunes that now make up his property. “They built an unbelievable golf practice complex in my backyard. #BestArtificial Turf”

Wahlberg’s 30,000-square-foot mansion in Beverly Park, CA, is already pretty posh with a two-story gym, full-size basketball court, and swimming pool with waterfalls. And based on the bit we can see of his new golf course, it appears to include a large green, several large bunkers, and a chipping mat easily accessible from his balcony.

Wahlberg, an avid golfer, actually lives near Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA—hailed as one of the best courses in the nation (with a membership fee of $250,000 to prove it). Not that Marky Mark would have any problem paying that, but it still appears that he wants a course all for himself (and his buddies, of course).

As extravagant as this seems, Wahlberg is hardly the only celebrity with this amenity. Pro golfers Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have private golf courses on their properties, too. And in case there are any golf fans out there turning green with envy, you’ll be glad to know that building a golf course (a small one, at least) in your own yard isn’t as hard as you might think.

According to GolfLink, all you need is a patch of lawn at least 3 by 16 feet. To make a hole, grab a piece of PVC pipe slightly larger than the golf ball, then press it into the ground. Hollow out that area, and fill the bottom with gravel for better drainage. Keep a short section of the PVC pipe in the hole to maintain its structure.

In other words, there’s hope for even the tiniest yards to improve your putting skills—no fancy membership required.
