Mark Miles helps celebrate entrepreneurship at Ivy Tech Bloomington

Ivy Tech Community College hosted a luncheon Wednesday to recognize and celebrate the Bloomington school’s contribution to entrepreneurship in Indiana.

The keynote speaker, Mark D. Miles, recalled how his own career as an entrepreneur began with a summer job during college when the Pan Am Games came to Indianapolis in 1987.

Miles is CEO of Penske Entertainment Corp. and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Some years later he was doing “big events,” including Super Bowl XLVI.

“You learn by perseverance and persistence,” Miles advised the Ivy Tech gathering of about 200, including current students studying to become entrepreneurs.

“You set an agenda for the economic growth of central Indiana,” he said.

Steve Ferguson, chairman of Cook Group and president of French Lick Resort, led the conversation with Miles.
