Mark your calendars for bingo on June 14

Jun. 3—Move over COVID. Bingo's back in town.

That's right. Bingo night has returned to Haywood County, along with cash prizes for winners and some changes in the wake of the pandemic, said Ben Wilder, board treasurer for the Smoky Mountain Event Center.

"Allow for 2-3 hours if you play all 20 games," Wilder said. "We will take breaks throughout and have small item raffles and a split the pot," Wilder stated. "Concessions will be available."

There are a few changes because of the pandemic. "We sit people on one side of the table and they all face forward," Wilder said. "All of the rows of tables are eight feet apart or more."

He said that masks were optional at the event.

The charges to get in are $20 which buys a 3x3 game card for a total of 20 games.

The minimum prize is $20 for some games and grows based on the number of players. Wilder reported that last month's final game was worth $180.

The minimum age to play is to be determined. "We are researching to verify," Wilder said.

The bingo event in May had a total of 90 players. Wilder said they can handle 150 but no cap had been set yet.

"There are no other set dates yet but this is planned to be a monthly event," Wilder said.

Door sales start at 5:30 p.m. and the games start at 6 p.m. on June 14 at the Apple Orchard building at the event center.

The address is 758 Crabtree Road, Waynesville, at the Apple Orchard building.
