Marion seeking help securing Mountain Dew historic marker

MARION, Va. (WJHL) — The Town of Marion wants to secure a historic marker recognizing the town’s connection to Mountain Dew, but it needs the public’s help.

The town is looking to apply for a Virginia Historic Marker acknowledging Bill Jones who, according to town leaders, acquired the recipe, reformulated it, and sold it to PepsiCo.

Now, the town is working with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to get a historic marker, but it needs help.

“If you were a taste-tester for Bill Jones back in the early 60s, know details of the transaction between Jones and PepsiCo in his selling his famous recipe as the drink we know today as Mountain Dew, we need your story documented in writing for our application,” the town said in a social media post.

The town says this is the final step in its application for a historic marker.

Those with a connection to Jones or Mountain Dew are asked to submit their name, signature, mailing address, phone number, and email to the town. These can be sent to Ken Heath by email to kheath@marionva.org or by mail c/o Marion Town Hall, 138 West Main, Marion, VA 24354.
