After making a full recovery at the Marine Science Center in Volusia County, a young green sea turtle is back in the water.

Earlier this year, Zelda was found underweight and struggling to survive near New Smyrna Beach.

But since then, she gained weight and is now healthy.

“Zelda has gained two pounds since arrival, graduated to deeper pools and is eating well,” said Allie Bernstein with the Marine Science Center.

The Marine Science Center has treated more than 23,000 sea turtles in total.

Employees decided to release the turtle back into the ocean to mark the center’s 20th anniversary.
