You know the old saying about Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, that Ginger did everything Fred did, backward and in heels? Maria Sharapova, who got a wild-card entry into the U.S. Open following suspension for doping, went on to win her first-round match on Monday night. And she did it in a dress made by Riccardo Tisci.

The little black tennis dress was cut into the traditional sporty on top, skirt on the bottom tennis look. It was finished with lace cutouts and what appear to be eyelets patterning the skirt. If there’s such a thing as a formal-wear tennis dress, this is definitely it.

Sharapova shared a photo of the dress on Instagram with a shout-out to the designer.

“What an amazing experience getting to work with icon @riccardotisci17 and @Nike on this years U.S. Open dress. Just remembering sitting around my dining table talking inspiration and all things lace with Riccardo and now….voila!! it’s come to life!! Thank you, Riccardo!” she wrote.

Fans wrote into the comments to praise the luxury-meets-practical design. “Wooww love that dress!!!” wrote one fan. Another was only half-supportive: “Don’t love lace on the tennis court, but I love u!!!”

Sharapova also shared a photo of the dress in action. “ALL YOU DO IS WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN” wrote a commenter.

Unforgettable night! Thank you, New York.

Currently ranked as the world’s No. 146 female player, Sharapova is finally back on her game after a 15-month doping ban. Although the ban ended in April, she’s been dealing with losses and injuries all summer. Sharapova took down No. 2 seed Romanian Simona Halep and will go on to play Hungarian player Tímea Babos in the Open’s second round on Wednesday. We have two questions: Will she succeed? And does she have another designer tennis dress in her suitcase?
