Margot Kidder, Who Played Lois Lane in 1978's 'Superman,' Dead at 69

Kidder died at her Montana home on Sunday, TMZ reported. Her cause of death is not known.

Margot Kidder, best known for her portrayal of Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane opposite Christopher Reeve’s Clark Kent in 1978’s "Superman," has died. She was 69.

Kidder died at her Montana home on Sunday, TMZ reported. Her cause of death is not known.

She was born in Canada in 1948. Her earliest roles were on Canadian television in the 60s before moving on to feature films like "Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx" with Gene Wilder and "Gaily Gaily" with Beau Bridges.

But she catapulted to fame when she landed the role of Lois Lane in 1978's "Superman" and three subsequent films all starring the late Christopher Reeve as the titular hero.

Kidder was also open about her struggles with bipolar disorder.

During one manic episode in 1996, she was found hiding in the bushes of a home in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood. She had missing teeth that she claimed had been knocked out, and police described her as "dirty, frightened and paranoid."

Kidder later discovered medication to treat the condition.

She returned to the Superman universe in 2004 with a guest appearance on the TV series "Smallville." She remained close with Reeve until his death that same year.
