Marco Rubio Talks About the Time Jeb Bush Gave Him a Mystical Sword
Marco Rubio looks like he's ramping up his let's-talk-about-me game this week. In an interview with The New York Times Magazine, the possible vice presidential hopeful answered a diverse set of questions about everything from the time he misspoke about his parents moving to Miami from Cuba "to escape Castro" years before Castro took power, to the more recent reports that, in interviewer Andrew Goldman's words, "charged $100,000 on a Republican Party American Express card, almost $14,000 of which was for personal expenses." There's also an allusion or two to the problematic Reuters report about Rubio, the politician who espouses fiscal responsibility, and his evidently dangerously spending habits. It's a fun read, especially when Goldman asks Rubio about that time Jeb Bush gave him a sword:
After you became the first Cuban-American speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, in 2006, your mentor, Jeb Bush, presented you with a sword. What was that about?
Chang is a mythical conservative warrior. From time to time, if there’s a big issue going on, you'd see Jeb say, "I'm going to unleash Chang." He gave me the sword of Chang.
That's weird! Rubio forgot to mention the regal way in which Jeb presented the sword. "Chang is a mystical warrior. Chang is somebody who believes in conservative principles, believes in entrepreneurial capitalism, believes in moral values that underpin a free society," said Jeb. "I’m going to bestow to you the sword of a great conservative warrior." Now we can probably expect Ron Paul supporters to take to the comments section with conspiracy theories about Rubio's ties to the Bush family, and perhaps even China. But seriously, we want more pictures of that sword. It's evidently made of gold.
