March Madness: Where Texas teams will play in the NCAA men’s tournament

Six teams from Texas were selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament.

Houston is the top-ranked team from the Lone Star State securing the No. 1 seed in the South Region.

The teams from Texas will be looking for the state’s first NCAA Men’s Division 1 Basketball title since Scott Drew and Baylor won the tournament in 2021.

HOUSTON

Record: 30-4

NCAA seed: No. 1, South Region

First game: Against No. 16 Longwood Lancers (21-13), Friday in Memphis.

Fact about Cougars: Houston won the Big 12 regular season title and were the runner-ups in the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament falling 69-41 to Iowa State.

Fact about Lancers: Longwood became just the 62nd school, in the last ten years, from a mid-major conference to make multiple trips to the NCAA Tournament.

TCU

Record: 21-12

NCAA seed: No. 9, Midwest Region

First game: Against No. 8 Utah State (27-6), Friday, in Indianapolis.

Fact about Horned Frogs: TCU made its third straight NCAA tournament appearance under head coach Jamie Dixon. This is the first time the Horned Frogs have made three straight trips to March Madness in school history.

Fact about Aggies: Utah State is ranked No. 18 in the AP Top 25 Basketball Poll and is the highest-ranked team in the Mountain West Conference.

TEXAS

Record: 20-12

NCAA seed: No. 7, Midwest Region

First game: Against No. 10 Virginia (23-10)/Colorado State (24-10) winner on Thursday, in Charlotte, N.C.

Fact about Longhorns: Texas will play in its fourth NCAA tournament for the first time since Rick Barnes made 14 straight from 1999 to 2012.

Fact about Cavaliers/Rams: Virginia made its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Tony Bennett. Colorado State will make its second tournament appearance in three seasons.

TEXAS TECH

Record: 23-10

NCAA seed: No. 6, South Region

First game: Against No. 11 NC State (22-14), Thursday, 3 p.m., in Pittsburgh.

Fact about Raiders: Texas Tech advanced to the semifinal round of the Big 12 Tournament before falling 82-59 to the Houston Cougars.

Fact about the Wolfpack: NC State beat the No. 1 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels 84-76 in the ACC Title game. It was the Wolfpack’s first conference title since 1987.

TEXAS A&M

Record: 20-14

NCAA seed: No. 9, South Region

First game: Against No. 8 Nebraska Cornhuskers (23-10), Friday, 3 p.m., in Memphis.

Fact about Aggies: Texas A&M fell 95-90 to the Florida Gators in the semifinal round of the SEC Tournament. The Aggies leaned on Wade Taylor IV who averaged 18.9 points alongside earned first-team All-SEC honors for his 2024 season

Fact about Cornhuskers: Head coach Fred Hoiberg was selected as Big Ten Coach of the year, in a tie with Matt Painter of Purdue. Keisei Tominaga and Rienk Mast both earned All-Big Ten honors.

BAYLOR

Record: 23-10

NCAA seed: No. 3, West Region

First game: Against No. 14 Colgate (25-9), Friday, in Memphis.

Fact about Bears: In earning the No. 3 seed the Bears became the only team in the NCAA to have four straight appearances as a three-seed or higher.

Fact about Raiders: Colgate won the Patriot League title for the fourth year in a row with their 74-55 win over Lehigh
