(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Tuesday morning, March 26, Mayor Yemi Mobolade, City Council, and former Mayor John Suthers issued a joint proclamation declaring March 26 as Gerald “Jay” Cimino Day in Colorado Springs.

Mayor Yemi said while Cimino’s most well-known title may have been as a successful businessman and leader, that was only a small part of his impact. Cimino was also a devoted husband, father, veteran, philanthropist and visionary.

“As we honor the memory of a man who embodied greatness, may we carry forward his legacy in advancing human flourishing, and build a stronger and more vibrant Colorado Springs,” wrote Mayor Yemi.

Born in Trinidad in 1936, Cimino was the former President and CEO of Phil Long Dealerships and was well known for his philanthropic endeavors. Cimino passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday, Feb. 25.
