March 20th in Poway proclaimed wrestling day.

SAN DIEGO-(KUSI) Poway wrestling team won the state title for fifth time in school history a couple weeks ago at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield, Ca. So with that dubious honor come some well deserved praise and recognition. Poway City Council proclaimed March 20th Poway Wrestling day.

Mayor Steve Vaus wanted to do something special for the boys and girls for the Poway wrestling team that won state for the 5th time in the schools history. “Homegrown kids champions, we had to salute them.” Vaus said.

“For what we have accomplished and done its pretty cool.” Laird Root who wrestled at 150 pounds said. “We are being recognized by the city council for that.”

“Its pretty cool you know, I came to Poway its been nothing but love. Its a brotherhood over here, i’m brothers with all my teammates and i’m extremely thankful for the team and coaches that we have.” Robert Platt said.

“I feel like its something we were looking forward towards as a team.” It was bound to happen and i’m excited that it did.” Alejandra Valdiviezo said.
